HU-Zoom extends functionalities of breakout rooms

Starting with version 5.3.0 of the client, HU-ZOOM introduces a new function for breakout rooms: Participants can assign themselves to a breakout room and freely switch between rooms.

Breakout Rooms allow Zoom meetings to be split into separate, smaller sessions while the meeting continues in parallel.

This makes it easier to exchange and collaborate on HU-ZOOM and a whole range of didactic scenarios are made possible or easier to organize, such as WorldCafes, BarCamps or similar. Group work in small groups, e.g. as project groups within seminar sessions, can be easily organized, students can exchange ideas and get to know each other more easily.

The possibility of naming the breakout rooms individually makes it possible to make the content or social focus of the individual rooms visible and to organize the exchange between them.

There are still a few problems: communication between the Breakout Rooms and the plenum via chat is not (yet) implemented and the sharing of content that has been developed in the rooms is still only possible via work-arounds. All in all, however, it’s a step in the right direction.

To use the new function, the HU-Zoom client may need to be updated to version 5.3.0 or higher. Instructions for updating can be found on the Zoom support pages.
